Help with 36v to 48v conversion
I've decided to convert my '97 36v EZ GO TXT DCS to a 48v. I already have a Navitas controller that is capable of 48v and of course a 48v battery pack (6x8v). Other than getting a 48v charger, what else would I need to replace? Maybe the solenoid to a heavy duty?
Thanks for any help! |

The solenoid needs to be replaced. The DCS motor will take 48V fine.

Re: Help with 36v to 48v conversion
Thanks. Do I need to worry about the F/R switch? I saw something about getting a heavier duty one but maybe that was just for a certain amperage.

Re: Help with 36v to 48v conversion
The F&R will handle the higher voltage okay. The DCS motor may not take 48v for a long time. The DCS and PDS 36v motors seem to over react to 48v like your wife when there is a snake or a rat in the kitchen.
Also the solenoid needs to be 48v not just HD. Get something like a SW180-48v for a 400 amp controller and SW200 or MZJ400 (both 400amp continuous) solenoid for the 500 and up controllers. The Admiral B2 motor does well in this cart on 48v as does the FSIP speed or torque motor depending upon your application. Remember never get a speed motor for big tires and off/road use. |

Re: Help with 36v to 48v conversion
Thanks Scottyb. I failed to mention that this cart already has a 6" lift and 22" timberwolf tires. Would that change any of your recommendations?

Re: Help with 36v to 48v conversion
22" tires increase load and decrease torque by 20%. Replace the solenoid and the motor.
People are looking for a good running DCS motor. Sell it in the classifieds. |

Re: Help with 36v to 48v conversion
Asking this question since I saw someone in another post mention replacing the charging receptacle when converting from 36V to 48V. Couldn't I just purchase a 48V charger with the same plug or splice my existing cord/plug into one of the raw end chargers?
So far I have the following: 6x8V batteries 48V charger 48V solenoid 36V-48V 400amp Navitas controller (already have) Possible motor due to lift + 22" tires |
