Default Help please crazy horn problem

My horn only makes a very very low sound when I push the button. And tail lights dim headlights fine unless headlights on high beam then both head light and tail lights dim. All lights are LED

Steps I have taken to try and fix

1: checked horn with external 12 volt sounds = perfect
2: checked voltage at horn with it disconnected with button pushed = 12.7v
3: replaced horn with old motorcycle horn = perfect
4: checked voltage with horn hooked up button pushed = 7 or so volts
5: horn is getting very warm

If the horn is bad why does it work with external 12 volts
If it is a wiring issue why does motorcycle horn work

Thanks
Adam

I think you got a bad wire somewhere and are getting low volts. Likely bad ground somewhere.

Motorcycle/Moped horns don't need as much power to sound perfect--many even run on 6 volts.

Is this nasty turn signal head back again? Is this what you have on your steering column? These have been nothing but headaches for me.

I do have that one. I was told they have the potential to have problems. So I took the whole thing apart and did not find anything loose or broken. What puzzles me is that when I. Heck voltage with horn disconnected I get 12.7 and when I hook up a motorcycle horn it works and when I hook my horn to a different 12 volt soured it works

All getting 12.7V through the horn switch tells us is the switch contacts close. It does not tell us if they are making good contact or if the are and wiress or connections with excessive resistance.

The fact that the 12.7V drops to 7V when motorcycle horn is sounding tells us there is excessive resistance in the circuit someplace.

Since the horn switch is part of an item that is know to have problems, that is more than likely the problem source.

Replace the horn switch with one that can handle the amps the cart's horn draws and it'll probably work correctly.
