Default 94 Medalist keeps blowing Pedal Box M/S

Hi from down under. Have a 94 medalist that keeps blowing the micro switch in the pedal box. Full pack voltage between green and red connectors with key on. SOC meter not working properly as well. When jumping between green and red connectors with very light gauge wire, it will smoke up straight away. What can be the trouble with this thing. Trying to do a love job for an elderly gent.

Regards Steve

If there is a diode between the solenoid's small terminals, it is installed backwards.

The banded end of the diode goes towards the small terminal with the red wires on it.

Thanks Johnny B. The diode is in the correct position, however when I picked it up the first thing I noticed was that the black and red wires to the small terminals were on the wrong way around. Replaced solenoid and wired back correctly, but did not check diode. Would this have been fried and needs to be replaced ?

Regards steve

Remove diode for testing before cooking any more switches. Diode is not "mandatory essential for operation", it's there to make the switches last longer. (But instantly murders the switch it's supposed to protect when diode is bad/backward).

Will test, new diode on its way in case. What voltage should I be seeing in the pot box. Currently will cook light gauge wire across the red and green, must be a lot of amps going thru ! Micro switches on f/r are still ok.

There is no "wrong way" to wire the small terminals. (the side) Only a wrong way to install the diode.

Wired according to the parts diagrammatic, but the diode was definitely wired with banded end facing the black wired small terminal when I got it.

I wired to the parts diagrammatic, however when I received it the banded end of the diode was toward the black wired small terminal on the solenoid. Now wired correctly but problem persists.

Forget about the diode for now. Throw it away. What CG and others are trying to tell you is wire everything correctly and FIX the problem that the diode caused.
