Regen 2 motor

I know the regen 2 motor works fine without the speed sensor. Am I correct this is a function of the regen rather than the motor. You would need the speed sensor to run this motor on an IQ cart. Just thinking.

The regen motor seems to have more take off torque than the IQ. Or it may be the V glide.

It's the controller that doesn't need the speed sensor. The Regen2 won't go into limp mode if you run the car without it. But, since the IQ car is capable of much higher speeds than the Regen2 car, this feature was added to keep the speeds down. That's why the high speed magnet trick is so popular, because it raises the rev limit of the controller well beyond the power capabilities of the car. The IQ car as we all know, will go extremely slow when the controller does not detect the speed sensor. If you were to use a Regen2 motor on an IQ car the sensor would have to be working properly or the controller would make the car go really really slow.

Thanks, now what if the rev limit has been changed in the controller like the speed code 5 after market unit. At least I think it has. I guess I could just unhook my speed sensor and see if it has been changed. Would that hurt anything?

I don't know anything about the "speed code 5" software. It's possible that it re-programs the controller to ignore the sensor much like many aftermarket controllers. If that's the case, it won't matter whether it's plugged in or not.

I don't think that device is that fancy, it basically does a speed magnet trick... go ahead and unplug the sensor, it will most likely go into limp mode.

I'll give it a try tomorrow. I was just thinking if someone had a regen 2 motor and a IQ cart and the speed sensor was bad, being they seem to be hard to find, if this would work as a work around.

If you can use a soldering iron to solder 3 leads, all You need is $2 for a Allegro A1203LUA-T Hall-effect bipolar switch to fix the original speed sensor.

I could do that, but I am just tinkering around. I don't need one I'm just thinking of what ifs.

Well I tried unplugging the speed sensor and it did in fact go to limp mode, but it was a faster limp mode. I never checked with GPS but it seemed more like 10 to 12 mph. I guess the high speed magnet would be about the same in limp mode.

I'm trying this stuff out so you guys want have to.
