Re: Transmission problem
If the brake is dragging make sure the cable isn't locked up.

Re: Transmission problem
I took it apart yesterday, cleaned all the joints and lubed everything inside the brakes. The cable is not locked up.
I had both rear brakes and drums replaced a couple of years ago after I bought this cart, and it seems the guy in the shop who put them on, reversed the L and T pads. When I reassembled it, I put them on the right way, L in front, T towards the rear. I screwed the star wheel in all the way, I don't have that screw adjuster on top, and there is less dragging on the drum and brake shoes now, about equal to the other side. We'll see if that makes any difference in the noise while riding it, but the car still makes a loud noise I can't track down while running even in maintenance mode. |

Re: Transmission problem
Take the drive belt off and see if the noise is still there

Re: Transmission problem
I was thinking it could be a belt but if the cart is in maintenance mode shouldn't the drive belt be "disconnected" and not have anything to do with the noise? Or if that belt is still rotating then the noise could still be there?

Re: Transmission problem
It's a traditional open differential. The wheel with the least amount of resistance is the one that's going to spin. Hold one of them still with your hands while you rev it and the other one should go. That's how the differential works. The only way around this is to install a limited slip differential or a locker.

Re: Transmission problem
With the drive belt off, the noise is still there, and the noise (and the engine noise) is actually a bit louder.

Re: Transmission problem
With it in maintenance mode, and /or the drive belt off, you've ruled out the rear end,
so it's got to be the drive clutch, or the engine... What does the noise sound like? clanking? scraping? ticking? |
