Default Rubbing/Whining from motor

A buddy of mine borrowed my 2014 Precedent. On his last day of use the motor died and they had to push it back home. The cart now currently works but there is a rubbing/whining sound coming from the motor accompanying a smell. The cart will drive but the sound is still there as well as the smell. What could this be?

Found out it is the motor. It was beyond cooked.

Wow ... that seems like a pretty short life for a motor.

Are there any contributing causes for the motor failure ?

I’m thinking my buddy had too much weight on the rear seats and maybe attempted to drive through some soft terrain down by the beach.

Yep, sorry to hear about your motor. We have to remind ourselves & our customers that these machines were design as "Golf Cart" not dune buggies, but we never listen to reason we listen to the trill of the ride. Good luck on finding out the Root Cause so you don't have to go down this road again.

Did they forget to charge it? A stalled armature(not enough power to move the cat, but the operator keeps their foot in it anyway) will make some serious heat, or low voltage could cause the motor to overheat due to increased amp draw.

Did they pull it back with it in Run mode? In run mode the controller will use regen braking to prevent the cart from rolling away, and will cook the motor.

From what he told me they pushed it back a while then towed it behind their truck. Definitely didn’t put it in tow mode. Either way, time to upgrade.
