Default Odd readings and gassing

I have a set of 6 x 8V batteries in a golf buggy and when on charge the charger is going up to 67.4 volts and heavily gassing. I have checked the same set with other chargers with the same outcome. It is not happening with other 8V batteries that we checked.

Could anyone shed some light why this might be happening?

It is normal operation to see heavy gassing when charging golf cart (GC) lead acid batteries during the finish charge portion of the charge cycle. See the attached Trojan charge cycle description for their voltage recommendations. Other brands of batteries may or may not be the exact same ... but should be close to these voltage values.

During the finish charge, heavy gassing is normal ... it would be a problem if you did not have gassing ... meaning the your batteries would not be fully charging.

I noticed my Lester Summit 28000 charger was on an equalization charge the other day ... I measured the equalization charge voltage at 67.7 volts. I'm not sure what my normal finish charge voltage is ... I will have to check that next time I'm charging.

That voltage is a tad high assuming your water level isn’t low. Gassing is normal, its the water mixing with the acid again. If you’re water levels are good and run time is good, I wouldn’t sweat it.
