I do have a 48v reversing contactor to sell that would make this much easier.

Is it possible to make the swap using four 12v batteries vs six 8v batteries?

Possible but not as good. 6x8 is far better than 4x12v.

#1 is weld wire and solid wire the same thing?
#2 is it better to use solid wire or "multi strand" better?

I was thinking about using solid wire to make my own connections.

You can't use solid wire of this size. It wouldn't bend easily. Number and size of the strands makes wire more or less flexible.

I'm sure it wouldn't bend easily. I was thinking about making my own wires. Buy solid wire to solder ends on. I was thinking about using heat to shape it, then shrink wrap to coat it once I fit the wires. But I'll only go this route if solid wire is more efficient.

Which solenoid should I buy? I looked on Amazon and I'm seeing 48v units with different ratings on them like MPT 800/1000 (not sure what that means), Lg and Small Torque ratings, and amperage rating from 150-200. Some of them are for TXT and other for RXV. I'm not sure which one I should use...

Go with high quality stranded wire.
