Default 1999 EZGO DCS solenoid diode

I purchased a 1999 EZGO DCS cart and it ran great for a day. Then will only go in reverse after parked. I am new to these carts and have been tracing down all the wiring and testing. I have come across two diagrams in the user manual for the solenoid wiring (attached) the non-DCS diagram shows a diode on the small posts while the DCS diagram does not show it. The cart as purchased had the diode installed in the opposite direction as the non-DCS diagram shows. My question is does the DCS need the diode installed? If not could having it on there in the wrong direction have done damage to my controller? I have circled the diode on the attached images. EZGO-Solenoid.jpg

Welcome to BGW - The resistor & diode is in the little plate bolted to the solenoid. These can be replaced with modern conventional resistor and diode.

The banded end of the diode needs to be towards the + wire.
The + wire can be in either side of this little solenoid.

another question scotty, on the non-DCS diagram it shows a black wire (12) from solenoid to B- of controller. The DCS version doesn't mention that wire, it only shows blue from the controller. The guy had a wire run from the solenoid (with blue) to the battery BL-. Is this needed or would cause a problem on the DCS? I am trying to narrow my problem down. I think it is a bad controller at this point. I have an Alltrax loaded in my cart on your site but want to confirm it is the problem before pulling that trigger
