Nasty grinding sound out of rearend with no movement
2004 club car DS
Golf cart left us stranded today. Brought it home, threw it on the lift and it looks like the motor is separating from the diff housing. Acts like a broken diff (no resistance when spinning tires) but the motor is coming apart is seems. Where should I start! Should I pull the axles first or the motor? |

Re: Nasty grinding sound out of rearend with no movement
I'd pull the motor first. Can guarantee that is 100% done for.
If it's cocked off the side like that either the splines got stripped out and tried to shove the motor off (broke the mounting ring), or the input shaft bearings got ate up and the input shaft started wobbling around. The end of the input shaft supports the end of the armature so if the bearings go bad the armature starts wobbling around and will basically turn into a flail. Whatever it touches gets beat to death. Probably will need a whole new rear axle, but won't know until you get the axle apart. |
