Default how tight should my belt be

hi i have a 87 club car and i need my belts replaced and i was wondering how tight they should be ?

They can be quite loose and still perform okay..... the width is more critical... 1/8th of an inch worn off the width calls for replacement.... the orig belt was 15/16ths x 37-1/4 hope this helps

thank u, well my drive belt is fairly loose and my generator belt is very tight is that ok

That is normal Nitro. The S/G belt needs to be tight in order to crank the motor without slipping whereas the drive belt is a little slack in order to give a smooth transition from stopped to rolling. Think of it as a poor mans torque converter
