Start looking at clutch maint. Take the cover off the primary clutch, check the 3 rollers for flat spots.

Could also be the throttle cable if it takes off when it starts, that is under the flooring. You want it to start and run before the carb opens....as you push on the pedal.

Hello all fellow GC enthusiasts I put the GC on a jack and found the clutch works fine but the secondary Sheave starts to rattle and expands too much to the point where it grabs intermittently and causes the cart to jerk.

any pointers on fixing or adjusting the secondary sheave?

Aloha

It could just be the belt is worn too thin. I had a similar problem, found that the spring was broken. I replaced the sheaves, belt and spring with Plowman's clutch kit. Huge improvement.

I would intertain the idea of replacing the secondary sheave. If it has been run long,it may be chaffed and not worth putting in just new bushing and seals. I bought a new sheave (with bushings and seals) for $53.00 3 yrs ago. Don't know what they cost now, but, pressing in a new bushing might not be worth it. A concierge spring might be a smart move as well! Keep reading, and learning!!

There is no adjustment, something is bad with it. You have a center bushing like posted and the ramps behind it and the spring inside. Each has to work right. The sheave can have the bushing go bad and get some wobble, the shoes on the ramps can go bad and start destroying the ramps, and the spring keeps tension on the sheave to hold the belt. Sounds like the spring has a problem or the bushing is bad causing it to bind up. Best to pop it off there and see what all has problems, fix it up, lube it, get it back on and should be good for a long time. The sheave can wear out they get holes in them from belt wear, mostly from dirt/dust on the belt wearing away the aluminum. The ramps make it react to engine torque so it gets more rpm under load like going up a hill.

You can also buy a cut sheave for a little more I think TNT had the last one I bought (a new one that was cut). It will help give a lower gear for takeoff and really steep hills, towing, and does not affect operation above about 5mph.

The limo spring mentioned by Mike Mac has a little more tension than stock for a heavier cart, people use those instead of going to an aftermarket spring that has more yet. Though I still use the stock spring I just put it in a vice and stretched it out some for more tension. These springs do lose tension over many years so mine was likely weak anyway.
