Default New Batteries that have corrosion?

Ok I headed some advice on here and decided to stop off and look at some trojan batteries. I spoke with the guy for awhile and he even took me out to let me see what all he had in stock. My issue is while he was showing me batteries I noticed some looked super clean, like you would eat off em, and others had some mild corrosion on the terminals. I'm not talking about rust, but just some white looking corrosion. I asked just in general without trying to make a stir, are all these batteries new? His response was yes, but I wanted to know from y'all should a new battery have that ever, or is that just a sign of how they were stored, or is he trying to sell used batteries as new batteries?

I personally have never seen corrosion on new batteries at an auto parts store..

You can check the date code to determine their age. If they have had them in stock for awhile I would imagine they could get corrosion but I would pass on those corroded ones. The place I got mine gets new stock every 30 days.

Trojan batteries should have a date code stamped on the negative terminal. A letter for the month. Example: E0 would be May 2010 fresh date.
