Default forward/reverse switch help please

I have a 1996 TXT, I removed the nut off the back of the forward/ reverse switch and 2 washers fell out. The spring is still in place but I don't know where the washers go. Please help!

Can you post a pic? The only springs in the F&R are in the switch cam, but there are no washers in the switch cam. There was a washer behind the large nut on the center pivot shaft. Is that where you mean? Maybe yours had 2?

There are 2 washers, one is nylon.

Logic would seem to dictate the nylon goes on first and the steel washer goes under the nut.

That is what I am thinking. There was not a washer with the nut. It was by itself on the bell looking housing. If that makes sense?
