Older ezgo charger capacitor
I have tried looking this up but can't find an answer. I need to find out what mf capacitor goes in my old EZGO charger. Its a black case 36 volt that has a sticker on back that says SERIAL 77 0958something
There seems to be a 20.5mf and a 6mf, most common. |

Re: Older ezgo charger capacitor
if it helps the bracket for the cap looks like it should hold an oval capacitor. I didn't realize it would be this hard to find out which capacitor a charger would take.

Re: Older ezgo charger capacitor
with the nice exception of cgtech, I seem to be the only one posting on this thread, so will give you guys an example of the tech help one gets from some companies. One so called tech says that the proper capacitor for the ezgo charger is the one that fits the bracket in the charger. I guess this genius supposes a 6mf cap or a 20.5 mf cap are interchangeable. Where do they get these "techs"? Company name available on request

Re: Older ezgo charger capacitor
The problem when dealing with really old stuff, is finding info. The transformer and capacitor are sort of a matched set. As long as they didn't change the design over the years, you could try what the newer ones use, but I'll bet you will find more than one value on chargers that you can find info on. The problem is old stuff was designed and built to be nearly indestructible and repairable. The newer stuff, not so much.
The following is in the "highly experimental" category. Assuming the ammeter still works, transformer and diodes are good, you could hook up a reasonable sized cap and carefully monitor pack voltage and current, and generate a plot. Compare this plot with your battery manufacturers recommended plot. Adjust size as needed. It helps to have two HUGE boxes full of caps. |

Re: Older ezgo charger capacitor
Sounds like the "did you check to see that its plugged in" guys.......Here you go, The best info i can find in aftermarket and ezgo books suggests that you need "20mf, 370v" capacitor.

Re: Older ezgo charger capacitor
We have a couple of electronic wizards on the list, and "if" you choose to do this experiment, maybe they could tell you whether it's safer to start with a larger cap or a smaller one. I don't understand ferro-resonance, and only have one device at home that uses it, besides my chargers.
