Ezgo workhorse forward/reverse swith and parts check
Hoping someone can give me some assistance on my possible 99 ez go workhorse project. I got a great deal on the cart but it was without batteries so I was unable to test it out too much. The previous owner took the batteries a few months back and when I looked it over the wires seemed to be in good condition. The only problem that I could spot was that the forward and reverse switch had the center hub taken out (see pic) and I am not sure why that would be taken out by itself???? First question would be, do I have to replace the entire F/R switch or can I replace just the hub that makes contact with the F/R switches? The second problem is that I have no experience with this type of cart so by looking at the pics, can anyone spot any obvious missing components? I am afraid that if they snatched out the F/R part then maybe there is another part that was taken as well.
Here is what I have: motor and trans. charging port (may have to convert) F/R switch (most of it anyway) just behind the F/R switch is the 36v coil (at least that is what it is labeled as) also there is a 4 slot fuse panel on the drivers side. Are there any obvious missing parts/components that anyone can think of? The pics from left to right are the battery compartment shot from passenger side. The second pic is the 36v coil The third pic is a up close shot of the f/r switch without the center hub. Thanks for whatever help you can provide. |

Re: Ezgo workhorse forward/reverse swith and parts check
yeah, you are missing a few things.
First off, there are a number of pieces missing from the F&R, the Switch CAM is missing, and looking at the last pictures, one of the copper studs is missing. but you can see in the first pic, the F&R's shaft is attached to the shift linkage. (I would recommend buying a new F&R) Second, you are missing the CONTROLLER (the brains of the electronics) you said you have the charging port.....why would you need to convert it? oh, and if you don't have them, your battery hold downs. |

Re: Ezgo workhorse forward/reverse swith and parts check
Thanks for the input. My other cart is a 80 club car so it just uses the 5 solenoids. I was hoping that the 36v coil was the controller that I read about in these forums. Well I did find the cam at one of the site sponsors and with shipping it was less than $30 so That is not too bad.
I have an older ez go charger with the two prongs that are both slanted in at 45 degree angles but the charging port for the workhorse looks like two straight rods should fit in it....hoping that I can get an adapter and be done with it....but that would be too easy. And I was planning on coming up with some kind of battery hold down system....might be easier to buy a new one. Thanks again for the input. I will check prices on the controller and see if it is still worth it. |

if you are going to repair the F&R....you better replace all 4 of the copper studs. as far as the charger goes, yes you can just get the proper plug for it. and as far at the controller goes.....if you buy a new stock one, you are looking in the neighborhood of $400-$500. but if you are just trying to patch this thing up to sell.....just get one second hand......

You need more than just the cam. You are missing a stud in the other half.
I bought the HD F/R switch fro ScottyB at CartsUnlimited, http://www.cartsunlimited.net/F_R_Switch_Upgrades.html Maybe these pics will help. This is my old switch. |
