You still need the +48v volt signal from the key switch to activate the controller logic as well as the +48v to the MCOR (also provided by the key switch) to tell the controller the pedal has been pressed.

What you describe, the short time this event is able to occur, is more in line with a capacitor holding voltage at the "cold" side of the key switch.

If you have a 48v->12v converter without a low current trigger wire that is being powered by the key switch, that converter will keep a +48v voltage after the key switch is turned OFF until its internal capacitors are discharged.
That would also wear the key switch as most converters cause a current spike when first powered and the capacitors are discharged.
Interesting. I hope to find out more tomorrow from the dealer I'm going to run by there and have him run the computer on it. My cart is fairly stock and does not have the 12v converter that I'm aware of.
Thanks for your response!

I'm posting the photo with the serial number of the cart. The motor also does have the plastic cap on the end with the two bolts.
No you will not need a new F/R switch as it does not carry motor current...

You do indeed have an Excel cart so speed comes at a cost.... Sit down and be realistic about your need for speed as it all comes at a premium. Yes my cart can do 33+ but it is rare that I go over 20 to 25 and with that speed you will then be looking to upgrade your brakes. These carts get a bit squirrelly when you break the 25 to 30 barrier...

Sam he owns this small golf cart shop just up the road from me in garner / Raleigh North Carolina. (Not sure if I can post his info, if not I'll remove it)

I'll post pictures once he brings it back, he found a short in the wiring harness so he is replacing that for me, so while he has it he is upgrading me to the level 4 program and adding the speed magnet and new 14" rims and low profile tires.

Not that it matters, speed code 4 is not needed with high speed magnet.

I think the part that matters here is that the speed magnet does nothing to improve the Excel cart speed.... The speed code 4 will give the cart a new top speed of 19.6 MPH as long as the rest of the equipment is able to deliver....
