Default Broke off the skid plate, repair or replace?

Not sure how I did it, I was just running through tall grass, I did have to back up in the tall grass, when I got out on my driveway it was dragging. I think the rearmost screws/rivets wore out over time and when I backed up I bent it. It was just held on the the front which fell off in my hands.

I do not think it can be straightened up very well, is this part available for sale? I can not find it on any site, what is its official name? I assume I need it as Yamaha put it on there? Can I just leave it off? I do not off road it, just run around at my place, mostly level ground.

John

If you don't need it, leave it off. The additional cooling will help the motor. If you off road it and need the protection, you should be able to find a used one around.

I would attempt to straighten it. I welded nuts on the tabs (on the swing arm), so the skid plate could be bolted on and removed!! Also I removed all the sound proof material!!

One nice size rock could end your adventures!!...

Those "skid plates" are a joke for stopping a big rock. Any rock big enough to damage the engine or trans will wad that dumb plate up. I regularly have to bend mine away from the belt, cause the foam is dragging on the belt. It's only still there because getting a drill at those rivets takes longer/more difficult than bending it away from the clutch.

If you drive in the tall grass I would try to straighten it out as best you can and put it back on you never know what is lurking in the tall grass big rock or stumps or anything for that matter stick or branches.just my thoughts
