Yamaha Custom Lift
Hello I'm wanting to lift my Yamaha g1. I have the 3/16th metal (from a shop in town for free
 ). I just need some more pics of how exactly to bolt it on and weld. I also would like input on the knuckles. What's the best way to extend? I'm a little nervous I could mess up my awesome project. Everything works but I want to lift it up. Seems like fooling with the frame may be risky. Someone please put me at ease to follow through |

http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/lifte...sion-done.html Its a little bit of a challenge, but when it's done and you take your first ride you'll understand why this is superior. The deal is this: single a arm suspension design (aka swing arm) is inferior for anything where 2" or more of suspension movement is desired, like off road use. In fact, it's downright dangerous at speed. Low speeds and smooth surface is no problem. But at speed you'll experience how unstable it feels due to the bump steer and poor suspension geometry. A double a arm with long travel is vastly superior. The downside is that there is not double a arm long travel kit for the G1. Get a G2/G9 if you want a bolt on kit. If not, you're looking at fabrication. If you're going through the hassle of fabrication? Go ATV front end. |

I put the atv shocks on the rear with 20x10x10 tires. It's awesome. No problem with it rubbing the frame or anything. Now I need someone with a welder for front.
It may be out of my price range to put an atv front end on. Could I use atv shocks on front and make the drop brackets? I just putt around the neighborhood with the Kids. So is that safe on pavement? |

IMO atv shocks on a single a arm suspension is dangerous. The reason? Most atv shocks are too soft and have too much travel. If you have atv shocks already, take them to a motorcycle shop and see if they can measure the weight rating vs. the original cart shocks. If they are stiffer, you might be ok. Off road you will get lots more travel and a ton of bump steer, which can cause you to loose control.
