G16 Gas Runs Then Wont
I have a G16 that will run ok but when you stop it won’t restart. I suspect it’s possibly the coil. Any other thoughts? Thank you.

The ignition systems on those are pretty simple - magneto systems. There are a few things to check before buying a coil: ignition switch, accelerator pedal "stop switch", stop relay, and of course the wiring & plugs in between.

If it cranks, but no spark - try unplugging the plug at the bottom front of the engine (blue & black wires). If still no spark, replace TCI coil. Blue and black wires are the ones that "ground out" the coil and prevent spark, so if it's disconnected and still no spark, coil is bad. Coil requires no power input from outside, only a magnet on the flywheel passing by to make spark. This info applies to G-16a and newer, and ends at Fuel injected Drives, they have a traditional coil. Do NOT buy a Chinese job, only the legitimate Yamaha one.
