Engine turning over when key is turned
Hi guys got a question, just bought a 91 club car to help a family out from a resent death it was supposed to run so I got it home and I put a hot battery in it to try and crank it well if it’s in forward or reverse gear as soon as you turn the key it starts cranking over without pressing the gas peddal , is this normal ? I also might add I have no spark . Any suggestions would be appreciated

Re: Engine turning over when key is turned
Not normal . Probably a stuck solenoid but could be something else. Be careful working on it, it may take off.
Could have been wired this way by previous owner. Check out wiring diagram. |

Worry about spark after you figure out what is happening here.

Re: Engine turning over when key is turned
Micro switch for the pedal could be stuck, or the pedal may not be coming up all the way.
The pedal actuates a cam inside the black box mounted to the frame under the seat. There are two switches, one for the pedal start. One for the ignition kill. The start switch circuit is also run through the micro switch on the shift lever so the motor won't crank unless its in gear. Check wiring against the diagrams posted in the sticky here. Make sure they're all connected properly first. |

Check the things fairtax told you about.
Do you hear the solenoid click or does it just start turning over? |

Re: Engine turning over when key is turned
Good to hear. Spray some lithium grease on the pedal pivot and linkage parts to keep everything moving freely.
