Default 2002 Club Car DS IQ 48V

I'm new to this and just bought my 2002 Club Car. What does the DS mean and the IQ mean? I have been told that i can program my carts speed. How is this done? Also is the 48V cart better then the 36V? Any help is appreciated.

DS is the body style, IQ is the electrical system.

In 2002 Club Car produced 3 electrical systems

1. 36v Resistor based (inefficient but cheap)
2. 48v Series Car, more efficient
3. 48v I.Q. car, most efficient

48v Club Cars are better because they offer more volts to pull from, and the on board computers help your batteries last longer.

Programming your car has to be done at a dealer. Unless you replace controller or motor with after-market parts.

phasetim,
I have a 2002 DS IQ.
How does the onboard computer help the batteries last longer? During the charging or while running?
I ask because I was thinking of adding an onboard delta quiq charger, instead of the using the factory charger.
Thanks
