Default 96 EZGO TXT gas sluggish start

96 EZGO TXT has a sluggish start. When you push the gas it starts making a sound and then a few seconds later the belts will try to start turning. It will stop again and then slowly go again. It will finally catch and start. Is this the starter generator?

Does pulling the choke help? Or make it worse?

I just re-read your post. Remove the seat and put it in neutral (shifter at 12 I clock position). Hit the gas pedal. Can you describe exactly what happens? Does the small belt start to turn immediately or does it hesitate or turn slow? Does the pulley on the starter spin but not the belt? What if you hook it up to your car or something with jumper cables?

It may be a loose belt or simply a weak battery. Without knowing exactly what happens it's hard to tell for sure. If you could get a video it would be helpful as well

Thanks. I will try to post a video later today. From what I remember the small belt hesitates and then turns slows. I don't think the pulley spins at first. The battery is a small 12v Duracell battery from Sam's, would jumper cables from a car be ok for this?

Yes.

While these starter/generator are more efficient than a normal starter, they still take some juice to get going. A lawnmower battery (around 300cca) is minimum to make it work. But really a larger battery is recommended for best performance.

I'd hook it up to your car with jumper cables before digging too deep. You may just need a bigger battery
