1983 ez go gas reverse with engine swap?

I a a newbie here. I bought an 83 ezgo with the dump box on it with a bad engine, So being an auto hobbiest that can do lots with cars I bought a 13hp 4 stroke engine I am going to install. My question is.. what do I need to make a reverse gear? new axle? trans axle? I understand that the 2 stroke that was original ran backwords to get reverse? Help please thank you bob

You are right about the 2 cycles running backwards for reverse, Starting in about 92 they went to 4 cycle engines with a reverse gear in the rear differential. I've never done it but I've heard of peeps being able to swap them......

BTW, what exactly went wrong with the original 2 cycle? Personally I'd rebuild that one if it's not completely trashed. Also, If it is I would be interested in buying the reed valve from it if you're not going to use it.....Good Luck

You could do a top end on it but I guess you'd still have the spark issue, and since you already bought another engine I get it.......

I'd still be interested in buying the reed valve if you want to sell it.
