2000 Club Car DS Cutting Out When Hot

Similar problem. Are these supposed to idle when in N?
Bought a use 93 DS in good shape, not running, cranking, but not running on its own. Many same symptoms as on this thread.
New carb, filters, pump, plug, blew out fuel pick up line, no crud in it, I can jump in it, turn it on, hit the pedal and a few pumps it starts but I have to pump it to keep it running and it seems to chug/miss. No misfiring, just requires a lot of action on the pedal to keep it running. On full pedal it seems to wanna die until I pump it.
And, it seems to be running hot. I smell a hot metal smell, not oil, from the engine area when it's been on for a few minutes.
I haven't messed with any microswitches or other electrical.
Vacuum pressure to the fuel pump seems ok.
Any ideas?
