Default Gas club car has little to no charging voltage

I have a gas engine club car and am having trouble with it charging. Last year I thought it was the starter generator because it would have an electrical whine and you could see it try to spin but didn’t have enough power.

It seems to happen it hotter weather as well.

I had the starter/generator tested and it came back fine. The battery reads lose to 12.7 volts at rest, but when driving it, it ranges from 12.1-12.3

Seems very low and like it’s not charging.

I’m looking for ideas and help of what to check first.

I am mechanical but have never worked on one of these before.

There’s a small yellow wire on the DF terminal on the starter gen.
Ground the DF terminal to chassis ground or the battery - with a jumper wire.
Start the engine and check voltage while you rev it to full throttle, see if the voltage climbs up over 16V.
If it does go up, more than likely the voltage regulator has failed. Usually an inexpensive fix.

I hooked a jumper from the yellow wire to battery ground and it ran up to 18.37 volts. Looks like the regulator is bad then. Where is that part located, what does it look like, and where can I get a new one?

The regulator is the small square in the bottom of the black electrics box. Remove the cover and you’ll see it under a bunch of wires in the corner.
Make sure the center post that holds the regulator down is clean. That grounds the regulator body, and it needs to have a good ground connection to work properly.

I get a lot of parts from David a Revolution Golf Cars. Site sponsor and has good quality parts on hand.
The cheapo Chinese ones on the fleabay or the jungle website can be hit or miss.

Got the cover off but not sure which is the regulator. I see a fuse box, starter relay, and throttle switch.

The dirty little square in the corner that's held down by the nut in the center.
Has a Yellow, Red, and a black wire.

Any way to test that part other than what I did? It looks to have a clean connection under it and the bolt is clean too.

If all of the connections are clean then you have tested already by determining the S/G is putting out 18.37
Need to replace it.
