Default smoking wires

i'm new to the electric carts.i'v gotin a '89 club cheap (BROTHER IN LAW).i charged the batteries one at the time with a 6 volt charger but when i connect the last cable the battery starts to smoke AND the carts wants to go forward with the key off.can anyone PLEASE HELP?

could be a bad solenoid, just check the solenoid with a Meter that will give you your answer

not wanting to sound like a dumb ***.i have big blocked my ezgo but were is the solenoid and what should it read?

89 do you have 5 round black things behind the batts? if so those 5 are solenoids and the master is the furthest one to the left.......if its a single solenoid it should be in front of batts dead center it will have a red and black 6 gage cable coming off of it........................................

Um...
2 big problems are the cables smoke!?
The cart runs off on its own!?
Could they both be caused by a welded solenoid? I guess but you would have to have a 3rd problem = peddle position indicator or speed wiper not returning to ZERO.

Solenoid should have pack voltage at one side (see where it is connected to the batteries?) And nothing on the other side until the peddle is depressed
