Default 2 cycle to 4 cycle shifter conversion

Guys, as you might know, I'm buying up my stuff for a BB marathon. Looking to see what all needs to be done to swap the handle and garbage mounted to it, to the 4 cycle and cables? Pretty interchangeable from 2 cycle marathon to 4 cycle marathon? Thanks!!!

probably get better response in the bb forum, but if you mean the shifter mechanism on the 4 cycle axle, the shifting is done mechanicaly, most of the time with cables. good luck.

I understand, but is it as simple as removing the handle and that electrical mess and putting in the handle and cables?

mop, my response was the limit of my knowledge on gas 4cycle set ups. just trying to help, but again i would either use the search function or go to the bb forum and read till your eyes bleed.

No it's not. You are also going to have to replace the rear axle. To be frank it seems rather a fruitless task to BB a 20+ year old 2 stroke marathon but good luck anyway.

What if I happen to like the marathon ? Why do people restore old cars, kinda seems fruitless. I am picking up a 4cycle rear axle soon. If you don't know the answer, don't comment. Just asking for a little info that I didn't see via the search. Guess I should sell my Mopars since they are older than my marathon.

Really? Let's look at the question. "is it as simple as removing the handle and that electrical mess and putting in the handle and cables?"

Now look at my answer. No it's not. You are also going to have to replace the rear axle.

Clearly I do know the answer so presumably your objection is to the fact that I disagree with you on the viability of the task. Well if you only want to hear opinions that concur with your own then you would be better off talking to yourself rather than posting to a open forum.

Good luck with your project.

Dave, please read the title... shifter conversion. Not axle conversion, not big block, not electric to gas... But the title is shifter conversion.... I'm just saying before you make fun of me or my project, try reading a little.

OK Mopar let's start again. I read that you want to put a big block ( and I assume that is what you mean by BB) engine into a 2 cycle Marathon. I don't know what your level of expertise is so I don't know if you are aware that the 2 cycle shifter starts the engine backwards to give you reverse, this is not how a big block works. So my point is that you will have to replace the rear axle if you want your cart to have a reverse option. Your original post (which was what I was replying to did not make it clear if you knew that).
Let me assure you that I did read the title and I certainly was not making fun of you or your project. I am still of the opinion that you have a lot of work ahead and there are easier ways to accomplish this. However, for the third time, let me wish you good luck with your project.
