Broken starter/generator belt......AGAIN!!
WTH does my Workhorse keep shredding starter belts? It just shredded the second belt in the last 10hrs of operation. What's the OEM length for my cart? I got a 35" from Carquest but its a tight fit (the first one broke already and a 36" was too long). I cannot seem to find a service manual for the '88 year model to be able to identify any specs like belt lengths, I know its the odd duck. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Re: Broken starter/generator belt......AGAIN!!
I would check for a properly sized drive (MTD) belt at Tractor Supply (5743 W Tennessee St). Remember these belts drive from the sides, not the bottom... correct width is important. If a v-belt touches bottom in a pully it is past due for replacement.

Thanks for the response Phil.
Any other ideas? Can somebody tell me the proper length for the starter belt? |

Re: Broken starter/generator belt......AGAIN!!
Make sure the pulleys are smooth, and straight.Any rust or dents/twists will eat-belts.A piece of 80grit sandpaper does wonders for pulleys. Also make sure the alignment is correct. If a bracket is bent,it can cause the belt to run along one side and either pop off,or shread.Hope this helps.

Re: Broken starter/generator belt......AGAIN!!
Thanks everybody! I think I found a bolt head that the belts have been rubbing against.
