83 Marathon front wheel wobble
Hello, I am new to the site. I have read several threads and can't seem to find an exact answer on what I might have going on. My front left wheel is wobbling pretty bad. I have tried 3 different rims so I am confident that is not the issue. I know that I do have a tie rod end on that side that needs replaced but it still wobbles jacked up, just spinning it slowly by hand. I am guessing the inside bearing, but not sure if it might be the axle shaft or the entire hub itself or what. Just not sure what I should look to replace. Any help is appreciated. BTW, this is a 36V ezgo marathon with stock tires and rims.

Re: 83 Marathon front wheel wobble
It sounds to me like the wheel bearing in that hub are shot hopefully that's all it is. If its been that way for a while it could have damaged the spindle or the hub itself. You would need to pull it apart to find out for sure.

Re: 83 Marathon front wheel wobble
Anybody have any idea what they would replace first? I would hate to waste the money on a whole new hub assembly if I don't need to.

Re: 83 Marathon front wheel wobble
Ok, thank you. I didn't see that response earlier. I will see what I find after pulling the bearing.

Re: 83 Marathon front wheel wobble
Appreciate the link. Last night I pulled the hub cleaned all the old grease from both bearings, races and the spindle. Bearings and races all looked good. Spindle was not damaged in any way that I could see. So I repacked bearings and reinstalled. Still have the wobble and not sure if the actual hub is bent, it doesnt appear to be but only a slight bend I would think would be enough for it not to spin true. The other I would think is the spindle is bent. When I bought the cart it had a different tire than the other three and there was a small dent or two on the front of the cart. I asked the seller about it and he said he bought it that way. I am guessing whatever they did may have caused this. Just not sure which direction to go. I don't want to throw money at parts that dont need replaced. I have to think if the plate on the hub that attaches to the wheel were bent the wheel would just spin at an angle not wobble as it spins, so....any thoughts or experiences with this before from anybody out there?

Re: 83 Marathon front wheel wobble
My 83 had steel hubs not the newer aluminium ones and it had a bent hub. I took the studs out and spun it in a lathe and did a face cut. It was only out about .080 but it made the wheel wobble a bunch. I would suspect the hub to be bent if it's the welded steel type.
