Default 1983 Marathon block

I just picked up a gas powered, 1983 Marathon with the 2pg engine for my daughter and I to restore. It came with all it's major parts in boxes. It needs the top end rebuilt which I can do. The bigger issue is that the block is cracked from someone dropping it. Does anyone know if the block is aluminum or magnesium? I am hoping this is something that can be welded.

I have been searching around to find the manual for it but they are $70! Yikes!! I was thinking about buying a cheap one I found that is for a 89. The basic concepts should be similar? I guess 83 was an odd year setup-wise. The cart didn't cost anything so it is worth trial and error for a fun restoration project with my 10 year old.

Thanks for any help. This forum has already been amazingly awesome!

The block is aluminum so it can be welded. The 89 manual is totally different as those years had 4 strokes in them. Hope this helps.

4-stroke wasn't used until after 92. The 89 will have a 3pg vs the 2pg. Very similar motor.

I found a free manual PDF on line after a very long search. I am looking to see if I can find the file. If i do I will reply with link.
Just rebuilt my 91 3PG at the tune of near $500 for long block.
