Reducer or Aux battery??

What we need is someone to design a circuit to tap 12 volts from the 36 volt charging circuit with a cut off, wired to charge an aux battery.

I went with the EZGO reducer. It has an additional wire that turns it on and off preventing the battery pack from being run down. When you turn off the key, the reducer kicks out about 30 seconds later.

yeah I got the 30 amp one from ScottyB, his has the same feature.

get a reducer. having yet another battery to charge and more weight to drag around is not good plus it probably wouldnt last long. The size you need depends on what all you will attach to it. for instance if you look at the back of a radio, there will be a fuse. It might say 15a. Well right there you know you need at least a 15 amp if thats the only thing you were running. You will have to read your product specs and project what you might add in the future and then buy at that point.

Thanks for all of your input. All of you have offered some sound advice. However, I'm still torn!

I actually have access to some solar battery tenders that a friend imported... The decision gets harder.

I can give you a little bit of perspective on current draw. My stereo with a 4 x 35 watt (RMS) amp will draw about 2-3 amps at low volume. As volume increases, the amps go up above 12. Headlights and tail lights draw 5-8 amps depending on your setup. Add in any other accessories you intend to use.

I have the aux battery now but when my batteries die, I will be upgrading the controller and going 42v. At that point I will switch to a converter. Just have to limit the stereo use!

My 2¢, I have the reducer now, and a relatively big one by RedHawk. Next time I will go with an aux 12v battery without hesitation.
