The hard part is sealing it around the shafts for the clutches.Ive been kicking this around for a while,I know how to make the housing, but sealing it is the hard part.I figure make seals from a felt-type material that will seal out water, but not wear the shaft.Hope this helps.

I was thinking more in line with like a belly pan to keep the water out and from splashing up onto it. Just to help with slipage.

I'll be installing a belly pan when the weather turns around. I plan on using a large plastic skin that was taken off the bottom of an old treadmill.

A lot depends on the cart setup, and your riding conditions.I go out, reguardless of conditions,i'm not worried about making a mess of the cart.On mine there isn't much for wheel-wells,so the tires throw everything everywhere.I actually get sprayed in puddles thru the slots for the seat-back brackets(gotta seal those up).In my case,a full belt-cover is the only option worth trying, others will vary.Yamahas have really good inner-fenders,that cover a lot, same with Club-Cars.

I don't care so much about keeping things clean either. I just need to keep the drive belt, the supercharger belt, and the air filter from getting wet.

This is what happens after running through about 12" of water and mud.

A better alternative to the Belly-pan would be to "Bag the engine-bay" with something like an inner-tube.Guys have done that for years on mud-trucks,and it helps alot.Take a large truck or back-hoe type tube, and wrap the swing-arm,carrying it up to the seat and body. Its' not 100%,but it makes a big difference.

Talking Re: Belt protection

I had thought about a big plastic container lid from Wally world. Cheap just tie wrap it on under the cart and if it breaks then replace it. Just something to keep the belt dry is all I want not worrried about the mud slinging but it's no fun I'm sure if the belt slips and the cart want move.

See if you can just mount a skid plate to the bottom of the swingarm. That what I plan to do to mine. There is even mounting tabs on my swingarm that looks like they were used for a plate. I'll make a template out of cardboard first to get the fit I need and then go steal a speed limit sign to make the actual skid plate.
