Powerwise Charger/Cold Weather
Anyone else have more trouble with their charger not wanting to come on when the temps drop? My shop isn't heated and it seems every time the outside temp gets down to the 40-50 range, my charger is very slow to cycle on but when it is warmer there is no problem.

Re: Powerwise Charger/Cold Weather
40F to 50F isn't cold.
It's 19F outside right now. Normal delay is about 3-5 seconds and 40F is within the operating range of the charger, so It shouldn't be much longer than that. Could you be more specific about how long it takes between plugging in the charger plug into the cart's receptacle and the charger relay clicking? You might try cleaning the outside of the Negative radsok in the Cart receptacle and the Aux. Contact in the Charger Plug. Also, you might try opening the plug and increasing the tension on the Aux. Contact a little. That's where the control board gets the battery pack voltage to turn energize the relay initially and where it senses pack voltage to turn off charger when it reaches about 44V-46V for a 36V pack. |

Re: Powerwise Charger/Cold Weather
30 seconds or so and a few times I've had to unplug from the cart and re-insert it to get it to come on.
It is odd that it only happens when it is cooler, on warm days it seems to just be the 4 or 5 second delay and on it comes. |

Re: Powerwise Charger/Cold Weather
I would clean your radsoks. Sounds like a poor connection to me
Can you take a picture of the inside of the charge port? |

Re: Powerwise Charger/Cold Weather
That does sound odd. I can't think anything that would make the delay get longer at 40 degrees than it is at 80 degrees, other than it is taking longer to sense the battery. (Dirty/loose aux contact to outside of Neg, radsok)
I'd open up the charger plug and clean/adjust the Aux. Contact; And clean the inside and outside of the radsoks in the cart's receptacle. |

Re: Powerwise Charger/Cold Weather
The plug does seem to fit more loosely than it use to, but I was baffled by the cooler weather affecting it.

Re: Powerwise Charger/Cold Weather
Parts shrinking slightly due to the cold? Seems unlikely that 40° would be cold enough to notice, but if the metal and plastic parts are already worn?

Other than that, I'm baffled also. The male radsoks in the charger plug can expanded by opening up the slit in them slightly. That should tighten up the plug. While you've got the plug open, clean the Aux Contact and bend it slightly closer towards the middle of the plug. |
