Re: Only can go 2 miles till dead
That a lot of voltage drop. Too much. Now we need to do the same test to individual batteries... Take a marker and number your batteries 1-6 and retest with the meter on each battery & post the results here.

Re: Only can go 2 miles till dead
Batteries add up to 30.8 under load... That's sort of low. I would continue to look at the batteries.... Check water levels, recharge, let them sit 12 hours and closely check SG with a temperature compensating hydrometer.

Re: Only can go 2 miles till dead
Wouldn't a bad motor kill new batteries quickly specially if they weren't broke in right?

Re: Only can go 2 miles till dead
We still don't know the voltages after it shuts down from the two mile run. What if they are fine and the problem is the motor, controller, solenoid, or F/R assembly? We could be chasing our tail here.

Re: Only can go 2 miles till dead
We could be. I am suggesting a process of elimination starting with the battery pack. This is standard shop procedure ... Running the cart until won't go has got to be draining the batteries well below the manufactures suggested discharge. Deep discharges shorten battery life. I was trying to avoid this situation.
My thought is to condemn the motor by process of elimination. Confirm everything else is good and the motor must be bad.... But I'm open to all ideas and happy to sit back and watch if somebody has another idea about how to analyze this one. |

Re: Only can go 2 miles till dead
He did state that after the 2 miles the battery pack meter was in E. Back in the day I raced RC cars and I've had a few electric ones when the motor went bad the battery wouldn't last a lap. Swapped motors and got 20min run times same battery. That and it had the same symptom with a complete second set of batteries. Those are the main reasons I'm thinking motor. I'm no where near the expert you guys are on electric golf carts. My vote is pull the motor and look at it closely. Any thing from bad bearings, bad brushes or even the input seal leaking would cause a motor to need more juice to turn thus draining the batteries faster.

Re: Only can go 2 miles till dead
I have a question? Could i have my stock motor rebuilt to be as strong as a D&D 170-004-0001? Or would I be better off to just buy the D&D? Or is there a better motor for my application ?

Re: Only can go 2 miles till dead
What was the outcome of this problem?
I am having a very similar problem with a 48V Club Car that is running large tires. My battery tests were similar as well. I just don't want to buy a new set of batteries if my motor is going bad... |
