48 or 72v ?
I have a 2004 EzGo TXT 36v lifted and camo'd for hunting. Just changed the rear to 15:1. I'm considering a battery upgrade to add torque and runtime. I realize there are a lot of things that need changing prior to batteries so before I start I'm trying to "begin with the end in mind". Would I be better off upgrading to 72v rather than 48v ?

Re: 48 or 72v ?
There is a minority that will tell you yes, you should go 72.
But I'm not drinking that cool aid 72v is expensive and 48 does all most people ever need a golf cart to do. Just start pricing 72v components. Besides with your 15:1 gears you are ahead of the pack already when it comes to climbing hills. But wait for the few , they will be here momentarily Maybe they will convince you |

Re: 48 or 72v ?
I mean I am definatley happy with 72v but it did cost a lot of money and I had to have plum quick finish the job. I couldnt figure out the wiring.
I will say I'm glad it's done though. |

Re: 48 or 72v ?
It kind of sounds to me as if your wanting the torque and staying power. If that were true you might want to go with 2 banks of 36v in parallel. You would still be able to say you have 72v without fibbing

Gonkulor, that sounds like good idea, haven't heard or considered that. How does one go about it?

Re: 48 or 72v ?
Some of the big volt guys here have done it. Maybe one of them will chime in or someone who can easily make those nice color schematics. Without putting a hitch and trailer setup on your cart, I think they went with the Trojan 12v batteries. I would like to go 72v too but that might be way way down my list and as I upgrade I will install compatible components. The thing I keep in mind about the batteries either 6, 8, or 12v is there weight and the weight coming from the lead plates. In general speak, if a 6v weights 50lbs and a 12v weights 65lbs the 2 6v batteries will have much more reserve capacity than the 12v. I hope I'm not confusing you and actually answering a question.
