'99 TXT Brake Install, are these springs correct?
Hey, I'm just installing some new brake shoes. I want to know if these springs are installed correctly. There were no self adjusting spring on there when I took it apart.
Thanks! |

Re: '99 TXT Brake Install, are these springs correct?
No. The short one with the odd hook needs to be reversed. The odd hook is twisted into the hole in the shoe then the regular hook goes over the adjuster stop. The longer spring hooks on the inside on your left and the outside on your right.
I may have a pic of my 98 as it looked when I took the hub off. Let me kow if my attempt at technical writing isn't clear. |

Re: '99 TXT Brake Install, are these springs correct?
Hey Denny, nope you're clear. The short spring needs to flip end to end, I'm guessing the long spring hooks on the inside towards the front, so on the other side it would hook on the inside on the right.
Thanks for your help. Tom.... |

Actually, on my cart, the long spring is the reverse of yours. Outside toward the front and inside toward the rear. Personally, I can't see where it would make a difference. The idea, I believe, is to ensure that the two springs don't tangle and prevent one and another from working properly.

I thought I'd be able to find pics of a correct installation on-line. But I can't seem to find any.

TSurette, that's a very good pic. I looked at a lot of manuals and other images, while doing mine, and never came across that one. For anyone not familiar with drum brakes that visual of the adjuster spring should be very helpful.
