to liscense for street or not
Father in Law gave us a club car, it has lights, brake lights, turn signals. They all work.
but it's not registered for street It has a windshield but I doubt if it's dot aproved. I have mirrors on order. It dos not have seat belts I plan to use motoring around my neighborhood, which is not officially golf cart approved in FL Also maybe take the cart to camp grounds occasionally. Should I go to the trouble to take it all the way and get it registered? |

Don't know about Fl, but here in eastern NC most LEO's won't bother you in a residential area if you are behaving and not doing something stupid. Lot of carts in Fl.

Re: to liscense for street or not
I was denied using the cart once before it was street legal in Myakka state park. now that it's legal I can go to any state park and they can't say no. love being the only one rolling around. And in a park like Myakka it is a welcome thing to have.

Sorry, that may seem dumb, but I'm new with carts....... thinking maybe there's a grey area if you have the features (mirrors, lights, etc....) but just don't have the tag hanging on the back...... I really don't want to go to the expense and the trouble...... well, really I don't fully understand how expensive OR how much trouble it would be....... Also, I'm also hoping that my kids will be able to drive it, but I'm assuming that if it has a tag they mst be 16 with a DL...... |

Re: to liscense for street or not
yup you need a tag and there is no gray area when dealing with the state/feds . some camp grounds I have been in may let some older kids drive (look 16) but most stop and check . if you want the to look at the paperwork pm me a email addy and i'll sent it to you , its not as bad as it looks. the expensive comes from app fee, title, weigh, insurance , tag and reg. then there is the parts you need lights , brake , turn , side mirrors, LSV triangle , reflectors , windshield, wiper , lic plate light/mount and seat belts ... that's just off the top of my head .

Re: to liscense for street or not
I just did mine in S.Fl and I paid about 300 dollars in parts to make it legal my two biggest cost were the windshield DOT and I needed a new brake pedal so the brake lights worked. I found a cheaper way to do it after I purchased a new pedal assembly. I had a tag laying around so the transfer wasn’t that much I think the total inspection, title, tag etc was around 200 dollars. The only other expense was that you need real auto insurance for the cart once it has a tag so I found safeco was my cheapest for 300 a year. But now I can cruise the beach all day because I have a tag.
