Default 48v - 6 or 4 batteries?

Looking at purchasing a used 48 volt cart. I've heard that 6 - 8 volts is better than 4 - 12 volts. Can anyone confirm this and also why this is the case?

You are correct 6 - 8 volts is better, you will get a longer run time with this set-up...however the cost of 6 -8 volts will generally be 20 percent higher than the 4 - 12 volt set-up...so advantages and disadvantages to both... As a dealer I will also note that I have found that the 12 volt set-up usually last around 4 years on average where-as the 8 volt set-up last 5-6 years typically...hope that helps

Does the weight of batteries. Offset the extra range of the 6 vs 4?

The capacity of the 6 - 8 volt set-up makes the weight not to much of a factor as far as range is concerned, however also keep in mind this set-up will cause cart to run slightly slower from stock due to added weight and In very hilly terrain will cause cart to struggle a bit more for same reason...

When it was introduced the RXV had a 4x12V pack using Trojan T-1275 batteries and the questions about retrofitting a 6x8V T-875, or other 8V battery came up quite often, so I put together a comparison chart using Trojan brand batteries.

There is a weight penalty going from a 4x12V to a 6x8V, but the increased range and lifespan more than make up for it.

There will be performance hit also, something akin to having a 50 pound kid onboard all the time, up to a 128 pound adult depending on the AH of the batteries.
