Voltage Reducer Wiring options
I'm installing a front LED light bar and small tail lights on my cart. These lights will get very little use. My questions is: Will the reducer cause any battery drain while wired with key on activation or is there a way to wire the reducer so I can turn it on only when I need it?

Re: Voltage Reducer Wiring options
Without any 12v load, the converter will drain a negligible amount of current from the pack.

Re: Voltage Reducer Wiring options
The draw is mA minor not to worry. My reducer has a trigger wire so i use it and if i dont have accessories on i dont worry about the draw. You cant put a switch in-line of either side of the positive 48v input to reducer or positive output to accessory fuse panel.

Re: Voltage Reducer Wiring options
Is a 48v rated switch between the battery positive and the reducer ok to use or is a relay also needed.
Epb, I noticed your from Katy. My wife graduated from Katy high school, small world. |

Re: Voltage Reducer Wiring options
As a main on / off per your original desire its fine. I took sergios recommendation of a relay when activated by key switch. Others say not needed but for 6 bucks why not if it saves me a hundo !
It is a small world. Tell her katy lost to the woodlands ....first loss in league play in 6 years or something like that. Still have a chance for state. People freakin move within a mile just to be in district. |

Re: Voltage Reducer Wiring options
Do you or Sergio have a schematic of how the relay would be wired. Is the Potter and Brumfield T9AP1D52-48-01 the correct relay?

Re: Voltage Reducer Wiring options
You don't need a relay if the converter you bought has a "trigger" wire (5 wire converter), you just run the "trigger" wire to the cold side of the key switch. The +48v Input for the converter comes straight from the pack positive, with a fuse near the battery.
Otherwise that is the correct relay part number, it should be under $5. 48v relay. How to wire the relay. |

Re: Voltage Reducer Wiring options
Sergio, I bought this reducer. It is (4) wire, but has a trigger wire for the switch.
http://www.golfcartking.com/Golf-Car.../volt-0012.htm I figured if a $10 relay would help protect the reducer, why not. The reducer won't be used much, but necessary for lighting. Thank You for your help. |
