Default 2008 Carryall Turf 2 Steering Problem

Hi all new here.

Just picked up a 2008 Carryall Turf 2 at a local auction. Filled the batteries with water and got it running last night. While driving around for the first time i noticed that it would turn sharply to the right but barely to the left. I got the front end off and looked around and it seems like the teeth in the steering might be stripped (dont know for sure). I can turn the wheel turn all the way to the left and then push the tires until they hit the stops. Then if i start turning the wheel back right it catches right away as if no teeth are stripped.

Any ideas?

I've got an old DS that is like that. It's one of my yard carts so I don't bother trying to fix it, but it turns left like a champ. Turn around on a dime and give you 9 cent change. However turning right is awful. You couldn't turn around in a parking lot with that thing to the right.

My carryall does the same thing, after some searching I decided to replace the steering gearbox. Should have it done in a few weeks when I get back to the cart. Never rebuilt one but I am told it is possible, but I paid less than 150 delivered so I'm fine with that. Will let you know how it goes.

What models use the same steering gearbox? I probably should just get a new one as well. There are many used working gearbox's on the interwebs but i'm so new to this I don't know what will fit my 08 Turf 2.

I've rebuilt a couple precedents and quite a few ezgos over the years. The hardest thing I ever had was getting a freakin inner tie rod off of a precedent. It was on with the force of 100 men. A vice, a crappy wrench and a 5lb sledge later I got it off.

I think i discovered the problem. Check the picture and take a look at how bent that bracket is. Im pretty sure this is why the wheels wont turn to the stops on both side. I also think that the over extending caused the rubber bushings to split....

The angle of the tie rod to the front right tire looks awful. That could be a huge part of it if that bracket it bent. I can say I did a replacement on a Precedent where a kid screwed the pooch on one.....had to replace the front structure support. Hard to get, has to be machined once you get it, nightmare it was.

Yeah the bent bracket is definitely causing that tie rod to be at that odd angle. I'll see if I can't take the front structure off, then heat up the bent part and hammer it straight.

There is a sticky with comments on your problem..

Seems like the culprit is a hard slam into the front end, possibly a pothole.
