clicking sound on accelerate
I’m posting a problem that I am currently having with my 95 electric ezgo. The problem I’m experiencing is that a after running the cart for a few minutes it starts to lose power and makes a clicking sound. Once you stop rolling if you press the accelerate the motor clicking continues and the cart doesn’t move. If you put it in reverse the cart will run fine. It almost feel like the gears are slipping. Any thoughts

Re: clicking sound on accelerate
That is a low voltage problem. the sound you hear is the solenoid clicking in and out because there is not enough voltage to hold it in.
Continued clicking will damage the solenoid contacts. Check your batteries. |

Re: clicking sound on accelerate
If it is a series cart you may have a contact problem in the F&R.... creating a similar low voltage situation, anything else you forgot to mention?

Re: clicking sound on accelerate
You indicated the cart starts out fine but quickly looses power..... this is almost always a battery problem?
Connect a DMM to the pack and run the cart if you can, let us know the starting voltage and what it drops to as the cart slows and clicks. If there is no significant (5v+) drop then the problem could be a bad connection..... if it's limited to one direction it is likely in the F&R switch. |

Re: clicking sound on accelerate
A series cart will run in reverse with batteries to weak to move the cart in forward. I'm not sure of the reason for this ( maybe the brush timing ). I was told it is so you can move the cart out of the way if it dies. I don't know about that one, though.

Re: clicking sound on accelerate
Not meaning to question you, but I'm not sure the motor cares which direction it goes. As long as it has enough juice to run it one way, I'd think it would run the other, but I'm just speculating.

I seem to remember there was an optimal phase relationship when running series wound motors on AC, but I might be wrong. Also, some carts have 1/2 speed reverse, so the lower current draw might make a difference in how long almost dead batteries will turn motor. (Peukert Effect) Personally, I think I'll just accept this phenomenon as a truism the same way aeronautical engineers accept the fact Bumble Bees can fly even though it can be proven mathematically, that they can't. |

Re: clicking sound on accelerate
I think I read that through high speed video, they were able to determine that the way the bee flaps his wings is different than anyone had envisioned, so now the math works and the bee CAN fly.
