Default Testing a spare motor question

The last cart I bought came with a spare rear end with motor still attached. It's a 1998 Series motor. I would like to hook the motor up and see if it all works or if I need to throw it in the dumpster. Can I just hook some jumper cables to the pack of my cart and to the motor? If so, what terminals on the motor would I hook the 36V pack voltage to? Thanks for any help.

I'd be careful using 36V. The output shaft isn't supported, so it'll self-destruct if you spin it too fast on the bench.
12V will spin it enough to tell if it works or not.

It is supported, it's still bolted to the rear diff.

36V will be okay. Just don't run it too long wide open.

Just keep your eye toward the Southern Sky this evening over Texas. If you see a big cloud of smoke you'll know I tested it.

Well, I hooked it up and it ran like a champ. Is there any way to clean it up inside without taking it apart? Something I can spray in it and rinse out that will not hurt anything?

There's nothing too scary about taking the motor apart. It allows you to check the brushes. You have to heat the bearing and press (carefully beat) the rotor out, but that's all addressed in the manuals in the stickies. I just did mine and replaced my motor bearing while I was in there. If yours is a 1998, it's been around the block a few times.
