Default Need an opinion on a 1993 Marathon Freedom

I have the option to buy a 1993 Marathon Freedom for $500.

The carts looks like it's in rough shape but comes with a charger and January 2012 batteries. The owner claims the cart runs well and will do 25 mph.

Other then buying the cart for the batteries, what's everyone's opinion on the 1993 Marathon. Also, what does Freedom mean (I see it printed on the side of the cart)?

Thanks

I don't know much about a Marathon but I would buy it in a heartbeat just for the batteries.

Cart is still stock 36v, yes?

I call BS on 25mph on a stock Marathon 36v regardless of tire size.

With very tall tires and a steep enough hill, maybe....

The batteries and charger are worth the $500.

The Freedom designation is the trim level on the cart. Lights, horn, etc.

Thanks for the info.

He's about 1 hr drive from my house, so I was trying to get as much info as possible over the phone. It is possible that the controller and motor have been upgraded and still running on 36 volts, but being that I can't inspect it, I have to take his word on the 25mph claim.
