Re: 06 Txt--dead after new battery install?
OK...
Looks like problems solved. Did have to replace the pedal box switch again. Bypassed the reed switch. No solenoid diode. Replaced the 60 amp fuse on white wire out of charger receptacle. Replaced the solenoid, just because, but not sure if that played a role in the cart working again. Learned alot more about the cart than i ever planned. THanks for you help Scotty and Johnnie! |

go to hear it running,,
( No solenoid diode.) did you replace the diode, after you got it running? |

Re: 06 Txt--dead after new battery install?
In a dilemma on the diode situation.
Mecahnic at a golf cart shop told me i didnt need to replace it? He happened to be near the parts counter when i was getting the pedal box switch this morning. Yall have had great advice and say to replace it? Since i am the same person that made 2 crucial mistakes on the battery install to start this mess, i do not know the funtion or importance of the diode? Is there any reason not to have it? What is the main reason to have the solenoid diode. THanks still. |

Depends on the purpose of diode in the application it is being used in. A swamping diode across a relay or solenoid coil is connected with the cathode (end with band on it) connected to the positive voltage use to activate the relay/solenoid. When the energizing voltage is removed, the magnetic field surrounding the coil collapses and generates a voltage spike with the opposite polarity of what the energizing voltage was. The diode is now forward biased and shorts the voltage back into the coil so it doesn't arc across the contacts of the switch that was opened to de-energize the coil. |

I am always surprised when I hear "qualified" technicians spout such nonsense... Here is the important function of the solenoid diode. Makes you want to run right out and get one. RESISTOR & DIODE FUNCTION The motor controller has large internal filter capacitors. When the vehicle is off, these capacitors discharge. When the Key Switch (KSI) is turned on, a huge amount of current will flow charging these capacitors. This inrush can arc and damage the solenoid contacts and stress the controller. Adding a Pre-Charge Resistor keeps the capacitors "topped-off" with a charge. When the key switch is turned on - no surge current and no arcing on the contacts. This not only increases the life of the solenoid - but decreases the stress on the controllers electronics. • COIL SUPPRESSION DIODE - The Solenoid coil stores lots of magnetic energy, when turned off, a flyback voltage spike can occur. The diode absorbs this energy. (Note this flyback voltage can register in the hundreds of volts and can effect anything down stream such as the controller, the DC reducer, the Stereo, etc!?) • PRE-CHARGE RESISTOR - provides a small trickle charge to the main filter capacitors in the motor controller. Having these "caps" charged prevents large surge currents when turning on the car. |

Re: 06 Txt--dead after new battery install?
Yea, Since this is all brand new to me, I am learning as I go.
I guess the manufacturer puts one on there for a reason. |
