Got the old one out by breaking it and prying it out with a screwdriver, the new ring is ordered.

The motor is pretty clean, I cleaned the shaft up a little bit before I took the pic, had some black dust like crud on it but not much, the rest you see is just as clean as it was when it came out of the cart.

Is "eyeballing" the splines good enough to line them up if you're really careful or do you all have suggestions for a better way? Also, I have some super strength specialty super glue which is made by loctite, wonder if that'll do the trick for putting it in?

Loctite 4211 is a black superglue so your one may well be ok

Eyeballing it may work pretty good if you install it immediately after putting the ring in the motor to help perfectly line up the splines.

I think mine will work, I've had great luck with using it in tough applications in the past, so I'm going to give it a shot.

I was actually thinking of doing it that way for that very reason, glad you could confirm I was thinking right!

You may want to double check the "working" time of your super glue, that particular loctite 4211 has about 3 minutes setting time and resists higher temperature.

You may not have time to make any adjustments with regular super glue.

Well, I got home from college yesterday evening and tackled this project. Got the ring in and lined up by eyeballing darn near perfectly, put the snap ring back in and put it on the cart and bolted it up. Let it sit all night for the glue to dry, plus it was late. Today, tried it out and no more noise! Cart returned and owner is happy. Thanks Tahoe and others for the help, I'd have tried a centering kit if y'all hadn't steered me in the right direction!

My DS is a 1998. It is making noise from the rear end/motor. Does anyone know of this fix could be the motor centering kit or the motor ring guide?

You'll have to pull the motor out and look at the end of the shaft to tell for sure. 1998 is somewhere around the transition from guide rings to solid shafts so it's hard to say which one you may have.
