New batteries (old charger)
Going to get some newbies tomorrow I think but was starting to think about charging them, old charger that I had (on left) was loud as heck, timer broke and I would just have to guess when to unplug it.....new charger (well, new-er I guess) did charge when I got this cart but batteries were already shot so im not sure if it's the kind that shuts off OR if it is, that that part works.....I don't want to cook the new batteries so how long should I let it hum before I call it?

Re: New batteries (old charger)
That all depends on the state of charge of your new batteries! Look up the voltage charts and go from there. I would never use an old timer based charger with new batteries. You want a modern Microprocessor based charger that monitors the voltage and tapers the charge properly.

Re: New batteries (old charger)
That's what im asking, is the one on the right supposed to do that? it says on it "Battery condition after recharge" so does that mean it shuts off?.......and without knowing if that part works (if it does do that) I wasn't sure how long to "test" it.....

Re: New batteries (old charger)
well I called them and it didn't make sense to me the numbers he game me......
Here's some information on your charger. I do suggest you cycle down the batteries before using the charger on them. You can also monitor the voltages on the battery pack in the golf cart, notice the 80% charge is approx. 38.4volts and a complete charge is around 45.9volts. Those are book values and may differ + or - volts. I would monitor the charger a few days and make sure it does shut off, if it does, you should be good to go!.Call me if you need anything and thanks for being a MAC customer!! |

Re: New batteries (old charger)
ok, installed new batteries (I think the pack read 37.7) and plugged the charger in...it did some test (lights blinking) then started to hum......I think the voltage jumped up to 39 or so then slowly climbed up to 44. something....after maybe 10 minutes or so the "80% charged" light came on so I left it for an hour or so, came back and 80 % light still on and I could smell/hear battery stew cooking.....none leaking out the top yet so I left it 30 minutes later I see the "abnormal cycle" light on but its still at 44 volts so I unplugged it.....

Re: New batteries (old charger)
Well I don't know, they said the "abnormal cycle" light only comes on if there is a battery problem, which there isn't.......i ran it all day and hooked it up and same thing
......guess I'll just have to keep my eye on it or pit somekinda timer out there in case I forget about it...... |

Re: New batteries (old charger)
. . . have you tested the SG of the individual cells of the batteries? Some have gotten bad batteries when they purchased new ones . . .
