Default Charger/battery Question

Ok please bear with me on this, I have a 2006 precedent with 4-12v batteries, I want to swap to 6-8v but I am on a budget, was thinking of doing the conversion that is in the sticky's. My concern is the obc/charger not charging properly, also I have read on here chargers are set to battery brand, If I do the conversion I will be changing from Trojan to Crown batteries. What I just cant quite wrap my head around is, to what extent is the original charger (powerwise II) and (obc gen 3) going to NOT perform with different brand, and 6-8v over original. I would appreciate any and all advise to help make this decision. Thanks in advance

I have heard that it really doesn't make a difference what brand of battery, they are all going to charge fine...

He MAY be referring to the DPI charger which has 4 modes that can be set by jumpers. EG. mode 1 = us battery
mode 2 = trojan
mode 3 = exide
mode 4 = crown/ AGM

This is the only charger I know of that has any association with brands but it is just an adjustment in charge profile and/or max voltage to adhere to battery manufacturer recommendations.

I have heard that the OBCs are made for specific battery brands, maybe Tahoe can expand on this...

I thought I read something about charger systems (charger and obc) being designed to battery manufacture's spec. Which I assume meant you should replace with the same as original battery brand. I may have misremembered that. I am far from knowledgeable about cart electronics. I just don't want to make a change and screw up a new battery pack. Thanks in advance for any help.
