Default Cart died, smoke coming off solenoid.

Ok I could use some help. I upgraded my cart with a kit from ScottyB. I've drove it and everything has run fine, maybe have a hour on the cart. I'm at the Camp Ground in Lake Gaston and suddenly the cart starts lurching, then stops. I can hear a click when I push the peddle, but no go. As I'm looking under the seat I see smoke coming from the solenoid. I've attached a picture where the smoke was coming from. In the bottom left you can see where the wires have been unhooked next to the small terminal is black. The clicking is the forward and revers SW202 activating. The Altrax is showing good, no error codes. Now it won't move and I **** sure can't push this thing up the ramp into the 5th Wheel. Any ideas? Only tools I have with me is screwdrivers, a socket set, and pair of pliers.

That is a tough one. Did the solenoid quit smoking when you took wires loose? Anything else get hot (check connections)? Those wires are the solenoid energizing coil. Check the big cables shorting out to something. Something apparently drew a lot of current. Not much you can do except look for some help to load it up.

It appears that several of your small ring terminals arced over to the big terminals. Can't say what caused that, unless they were REALLY close - nearly touching. I can say that when the solenoid engages and disengages, it can cause a fairly large surge, which is how an old school automobile coil and points works.

You might as well reconnect the wires and see what happens. Be careful . A disabled cart might decide to take off. Getting help to load it up might be better.

I reconnected them. No more smoke, but no go either. When it was smoking I could see a small orange dot that looked like electric,- right next to the small post.

Does the solenoid click?

Nope, the only click I hear comes from the SW202 F/R switch.

I don't think I am going to be able to help you. Good luck.

Like yurtle said, looks like small wire/wires shorted to big terminal. Check those crimp fittings and see if they are still intact. If you re-connected and no short, wouldn't hurt to check and see if you might just have a messed up crimp end at this point.

I'd like to know how it shorted. There is nothing touching the big terminal when the little terminals are installed. And there is no arc marks or burning on any of the little connections. I've hooked everything back up double checking Ll connections. Nothing.
