My Accusense charger just flashed and popped....what up?
I was plugging the cart receptacle into my cart when the charger had a small flash of light, accompanied by a pop. Now, it won't do anything, appears dead. It sounded like a fuse popped, but I can't see any fuse location anywhere. It is only a bit over a year old, and for the money paid, I can't see it going out this quickly. 2004 DS with OBC eliminated.
I always plug the cart receptacle first, check for lighting on the meter, then plug in the 110. Same this time. any ideas???? Jim |

Re: My Accusense charger just flashed and popped....what up?
Sounds like a capacitor blew up or something on the circuit board inside cooked. I'd get in touch with DPI and see what they say before taking it apart or trying to get any replacement parts. Might still be under warranty or close enough to get it exchanged.
For in the future, you Can leave the AC cord plugged into the wall. And you Should plug the AC cord into the wall First with this type of charger. Plugging in the DC cord first, and then the AC cord, you will have arcing happen at the AC outlet when you plug into the wall. Eventually this will damage the AC cord plug, and your wall outlet. The charger has internal circuitry that determines when the cart is plugged in and will not start charging for several seconds after plugging in the DC charge cord. So there is no need to worry about arcing at the DC receptacle when plugging in the DC cord. There are 3 pins in the charger cord. The two long pins are positive and negative. The third pin is shorter and is for the sensing circuit in the charger that tells it when to turn on. It also turns the charger off when you unplug the charge cord from the cart. The shorter pin disengages the receptacle first, and the relay in the charger opens and turns off the power in the charger so the longer pins don't arc. |
